Hospice House
Ultimate Memorial Ride
Cascade Health’s Hospice House Ultimate Memorial Ride — or HHUMR, as it is affectionately known — is a gorgeous test of endurance that invites cyclists to honor loved ones who have passed by challenging themselves to accomplish something extraordinary. All registration fees benefit Cascade Health’s Pete Moore Hospice House.
While the 2022 ride was cancelled due to road construction, we look forward to welcoming cyclists back to smooth, gorgeous, car-free roads in early summer of 2023! If you would like more information now, please contact us.
The HHUMR is a one-of-a-kind bicycle tour of Oregon’s Cascade Range led by hospice nurse and cycling enthusiast Zack Page. Riders will enjoy incredible scenery as they crank through some of Oregon’s most iconic and beautiful landscapes from Eastern Oregon to the Willamette Valley. The support team carries riders’ gear and stands ready with snacks, home cooked meals and Ninkasi beer as the group makes its way to camp each day.
The HHUMR is for experienced riders 21 and over, please. Limited to 20 participants.

“One Crank at a Time.”
Inspired by his work in hospice, registered nurse Zack Page conceived of the HHUMR to honor those we have lost by finding strength in challenging ourselves to live each day to the fullest.
The HHUMR is challenging, and in many ways analogous to the grief we feel following the loss of a close friend or family member. Sometimes, our grief is so great that we can only focus on getting through each hour of the day. Likewise, the HHUMR is 167 miles long and gains over 13,000 feet in elevation, but riders overcome its great obstacles by taking it "one crank at a time."
Accommodations
The HHUMR is a fully supported road cycling tour. The road support crew hauls riders’ gear and stands ready with snacks, home cooked meals and Ninkasi beer as the group makes its way to camp each day. All you need to do is ride your bike and enjoy the amazing scenery!
Your Guides to the HHUMR
Zack & Amy Page
Tour leader Zack Page has been a registered nurse for over 15 years and is currently working for Cascade Health as a hospice nurse. His wife, Amy, is the district teacher librarian for Eugene School District 4J and has worked in education for 25 years. Both Amy and Zack love a physical challenge. Zack rowed at Willamette University for four years and coached the novice rowing team for two years after graduation, while Amy played basketball at Willamette University for four years. Besides running a marathon (Amy) and doing multiple triathlons (Zack), they both have a love of cycle touring. Zack has done extensive cycle touring in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Thailand, while they both cycle toured Sweden, Denmark and Fiji together. Of all the countries they have toured on two wheels, they can honestly say that this three-day ride on the backroads of Oregon is one of the best rides they have ever done. Amy is the ultimate support crew and encourager, while Zack rides at a steady cadence while being the cheerleader for the whole party!

The Ride Route
The ride begins in beautiful Sisters, Oregon. Take in the Three Sisters, Three Finger Jack, Mt. Jefferson and more as you ride past Dee Wright Observatory and head to the summit of Scenic McKenzie Highway 242, which is closed to vehicle traffic this time of year. The volcanic mountain moonscape at the summit is like nothing you'll ever see from the seat of your bike. Then, enjoy the winding path down the west side of the mountains on a highway open only to bikes this time of year. After merging on to Hwy. 126 for five miles, the group will then take Aufderheide Memorial Drive (a designated West Cascades Scenic Byway) and follow the South Fork of the pristine McKenzie River to the first campsite.
A memorable climb up Box Canyon on day 2 will drop us into the Willamette River basin where we will ride alongside the beautiful North Fork of the Middle Fork of the Willamette River and camp just outside of Oakridge at Shangri-La.
Day 3 proves to be the longest and hardest day of the ride as you climb up and over the Calapooya Mountains south of Oakridge down to Bryce Creek and ending on the flat, smooth Row River Trail (a rails-to-trails delight) alongside Dorena Lake in Cottage Grove.
