Speech Therapist

Responsible to: Home Health Clinical Manager              
Hours: 24 hours/ week
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Pay Range: $40.45 - 60.68

Job Summary:

The Speech Therapist will function as a member of the Home Care team, providing services in the patient’s place of residence. Evaluate patients, plan and implement effective therapeutic interventions based on physical assessment, sound judgment, and psychological sensitivity. All care is provided in accordance with physician’s orders. 

Education & License Requirements:

Current licensure in the State of Oregon as a Speech-Language Pathologist and Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association required.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

At least two years of experience in acute care or home health setting preferred. Valid driver’s license, insured vehicle for transportation, and means of communication required. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Utilize current standards of practice in the field of speech pathology that relate to disorders of speech, voice, swallowing, and language cognition. 

  • Follow departmental policies and procedures. 

  • Comply with applicable accreditation and regulatory requirements governing the practice of speech therapy, while maintaining a high level of professional expertise and assuming responsibility for professional growth and development.

  • Understand the unique needs of home health and hospice patients.  

  • Provide relevant and current information to team members and community in formal and informal settings.

  • Develop treatment strategies based upon sound evaluative skills to provide the greatest therapeutic benefit for each patient. 

  • Implement program, monitor patient progress carefully, and adjust treatment as needed to assist patients to achieve their greatest potential. 

  • Remain flexible to handle a variety of duties and frequent interruptions.

  • Work with other staff and disciplines as an integral part of the rehabilitation team.

  • Administer treatments and document using computer systems.

  • Apply basic knowledge of high-risk medications and side effects.

  • Educate patients, caregivers, and family, using a high degree of verbal and written instruction.

  • Work independently, using sound judgment and good time management skills.

  • Communicate clearly, including verbal, written, telephonic, and electronic.

  • Meet safety needs of patients.

  • Participate in conferences, staff meetings and in-services.

  • Develop good working relationships with referral sources.

  • Negotiate terrain and physical obstacles to reach patients and safely drive an automobile.

  • Refer patient to other departments or specialists (ENT, MBS) when appropriate.

Marginal Job Functions:

Participate in orientation of new employees. Perform clerical and aide duties.  Move furniture, equipment and supplies. Light mechanics and instrument maintenance. Light cleaning. Perform other duties as assigned.
