Job Summary:
Responsible for the 24-hour operation and management of the Pete Moore Hospice House, including planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating direct and indirect patient care. Assumes major responsibility for day-to-day operational affairs and leadership of the Hospice in-patient unit. May require delivery of skilled nursing care when staffing requires supplementation. Understands and complies with applicable accreditation and regulatory requirements governing hospice. Maintains a high level of professional expertise and assumes responsibility for professional growth and development. Assures ongoing education to contracted facilities that utilize hospice house services. Assists with marketing of the hospice house to the community. Assures hospice house contracts are updated yearly. Participates in the QAPI process and assures ongoing education to in-patient unit staff. Will share hospice house administrative call coverage responsibilities on a rotational basis.
Education & License Requirements:
Current Oregon licensure as a Registered Nurse and CPR certification. Obtain Food Handlers permit upon hire.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
Two years hospice management experience preferred. Two years of experience working with the medical and psychosocial needs of the terminally ill, or the educational equivalent, is required. Desired skills include: Clinical excellence, leadership abilities, teaching competency, critical thinking, project management abilities, and excellent communication skills. In-depth knowledge of current hospice healthcare concepts, trends, theories, reimbursement issues, and expertise in the delivery of hospice services is required. Must be supportive of the philosophies of Cascade Health Solutions, hospice, and hospice house services, and have the ability to work as a member of a team.
Essential Job Functions:
Develop and manage department budget.
Manage departmental scheduling functions.
Assure compliance with regulations and contracts.
Organize, prioritize, and delegate to meet routine daily needs, and in crisis.
Utilize acuity and intensity tool to manage nurse staffing levels for patient census.
Maintain knowledge base of current hospice nursing practices.
Respond to emergencies and conduct patient assessments.
Hire, train, coach, counsel, and terminate staff.
Possess working knowledge of electronic medical records.
Teach, mentor, and support staff with their use of the EMR system.
Organize orientation process for new employees.
Participate in writing and update policies and procedures with compliance.
Practice quality communication skills: verbal, written, and electronic.
Coordinate conflict resolution, successful peer interactions, and coaching of clinical staff.
Provide patient/family and community education with effective teaching skills exhibited.
Work independently with strong time management and demonstrated sound judgment.
Participate in conferences, meetings, and in-services.
Utilize computer, patient care, and office equipment.
Lead nurse staffing committee.
Collaborate with home care managers to ensure continuum of care services for patients
Marginal Job Functions:
Answer phones, perform clerical duties, stock supplies in patient rooms, cook for patients as needed.
