Hospice Services

Overview

Cascade Hospice Services provides supportive care for life-limiting illness patients who are not seeking further curative treatment. We focus on quality of life through pain and symptom management. Hospice offers physical, emotional, social and spiritual comfort to both the patient and family.

Most of our services are provided in the home. Many life-limiting illness patients prefer receiving care in the comfort and familiarity of their home and with involvement of friends and family. If a patient needs to move to a nursing or foster home, Hospice Services makes every effort to continue care in the new location.

As a non-profit organization, we provide services regardless of the ability to pay.  This is made possible by generous community support and donations.

FAQ's

Q: Is a hospice just a place to go when the doctor can't do anything else to help you?
A: There are many myths about hospice that keep patients and families from accessing hospice care and receiving the support that a hospice can offer. Choosing hospice is a movement into another mode of care giving when a life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure oriented treatment.

Q: When should I call Hospice?
A: You can receive information about hospice at any time to gather data to make an informed decision. When the patient and family are ready to move from a treatment plan focused on curing the disease to a plan focused on providing comfort and relief, they may choose hospice care. It is helpful for the patient to be admitted sooner rather than later because there is more opportunity to manage symptoms and to form a relationship with the hospice team.

Q: Will someone be able to control my pain?
A: Hospice nurses are specialists in pain and symptom management and will be able to assess and work in collaboration with your primary care physician to determine the correct medications to control the symptoms and pain.

Q: What kind of questions should I ask when I am choosing a hospice?
A: Everyone will have different medical, emotional and spiritual questions to ask when dealing with a life-limiting illness. When choosing hospice, it's important to be honest about what you and your family need. Questions about insurance and payments are always important. Ask what expectations the hospice will have from the patient and their caregivers. Also ask about bereavement programs so you know what support the family will be able to receive.

Complimentary Therapies

We are pleased to offer our patients the services of complimentary therapists. These are professional, licensed practitioners of therapies such as Swedish Massage, Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Therapeutic Harp Music, Acupuncture and Accupressure who practice in our community.

These therapies may often help to alleviate symptoms and help to relax the patient. Insurance companies rarely cover the costs of these services. We make them available to you through the generosity of people in our community who make donations to our hospice program, and because of the willingness of the practitioners who often volunteer their time to help provide these services.
