Eating for a Healthy Heart
Presented by: Regan Peterson, RD, LD
You have been told that you have high cholesterol and your doctor has told you to "watch your diet, eat less cholesterol". Your friend tells you "watch the saturated fats", and "eat less salt". As you work your way through the store, you quickly come to realize that this is easier said than done, and you are quickly confused as to what do you really need to do.
This workshop will address the American Heart Association cardio-protective nutritional recommendations and put them into a clear and easy-to-understand format with examples and general recommendations. Everyone will benefit from this talk since about 1 in 2 Americans will end up with some sort of coronary atery disease in their lifetime.
Objectives:
- Identify foods that are rich in saturated/trans fats as well as healthy unsaturated fats
- Improve ability to plan heart-healthy meals
- Learn label reading skills
- Learn lifestyle strategies to reduce the risk of heart disease
