Dealing with Challenging Relationships
Presented by: Joanna Hoskins, Ph.D.
We all have people in our lives who seem too aggressive, pushy or intense. Dealing with people we find difficult can be frustrating and even frightening. In this workshop, you will learn specific skills to respond effectively in these challenging situations, both in the workplace and in your personal relationships. Specifically you will:
- Learn to recognize behaviors in others that may be early warning signs of conflict or escalation in interactions.
- Develop specific skills to help yourself remain calm, communicate clearly, and set boundaries in potentially difficult interactions.
- Discover strategies to respond to anger, avoidance, and defensiveness in a way that prevents further escalation and allows individuals to move into a problem-solving mode.
- Practice new skills through the use of practice and discussion.
