Weight Management ? Body Mass Index - Australian Popup |
Body mass index (BMI) is a weight measure (based on weight and height) that can evaluate the health risk of weight. Researchers found that persons with a BMI less than 25 have the lowest risk for most diseases while people with a BMI of 30 or higher are at high risk for weight-related health problems including:
- High blood pressure
- High blood sugar levels and diabetes
- Higher blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels and lower HDL cholesterol levels, all of which raise the risk of heart disease
- Increased risk for many cancers including breast, endometrial, colon, pancreas, and prostate cancers.
