Safety ? Smoke Detectors - Metric Popup |
A smoke alarm costs practically nothing yet can save your life – but test them regularly, because a non-functioning smoke detector is worse than worthless. Alarms wear out and need replacing every 8-10 years. A little over 10 years ago (1995), 93% of all American dwellings had a functioning smoke alarm. In recent years, 3 out of 5 home fire deaths occurred in homes without smoke detectors. Get a UL-listed detector at a hardware or home supply. They?re generally less than $10. Install it on every level of your home, especially in areas where people sleep. |
