Protein is essential for health, but too much can cause health problems. Choose proteins by the company they keep; those found in foods that are low in saturated fat and cholesterol.
Examples include:
- Legumes – peas, beans, and lentils
- Soy – tofu, soy beans, soymilk
- Veggie burgers, egg whites, cottage cheese, and other meat alternates
- Fish and skinless poultry
- Nuts
If you eat red meat, choose lean cuts and limit intake to small portions. Eat eggs moderately. |
