You want your activity to be vigorous enough to challenge your cardiovascular system, but not so intense that you overdo or don’t enjoy it. When first starting a fitness program, choose moderately intense activities, such as brisk walking. Young, healthy persons, and those used to regular physical activity may enjoy more vigorous activity. Intensity is too high if you tire out before completing your exercise time (30+ minutes) or you get out of breath and can’t carry on a conversation with an exercise companion. |
