Diabetes Risk ? Weight - Canadian English Popup |

The risk for type 2 diabetes increases with weight, especially fat that accumulates in the abdomen. People who are 20% or more overweight are 5-10 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes. A simple waist circumference measure is the best risk indicator of diabetes risk. A waist circumference of 88+ cm in women or 102+ cm in men is very high risk for diabetes. As you lose weight, your risk drops dramatically. Even a 4-7 kilogram weight loss can be significant. |
