Coronary Risk – HDL Cholesterol - Popup |

Cholesterol is carried in fat-protein complexes (called lipoproteins) in the blood. High-density lipoproteins (HDL) help remove excess cholesterol from the body. Because HDL cholesterol is protective, it is called “good cholesterol.” Average HDL cholesterol levels are 45 mg/dL for men and 55 mg/dL for women. The higher your HDL cholesterol level, the lower your risk of heart disease. HDL cholesterol of 60+ is ideal. A healthy weight, regular exercise, and avoiding trans fats help keep HDL cholesterol levels in a healthy range. |
