8 Tips for Lowering Colorectal Cancer Risk

  1. Adopt a diet moderate to low in saturated fat, high in fiber, and rich in the carotenoid lutein.

  2. Add olive oil to your diet.

  3. Increase your intake of cold-water fish, such as salmon and sardines.

  4. Make sure you get 1200 to 1500 mg of calcium daily along with 800 IU (20 micrograms) of vitamin D.

  5. Exercise 30 to 60 minutes daily.

  6. Stay within your recommended BMI (body mass index).

  7. Know your family history of cancer.

  8. Follow the recommended testing guidelines for colorectal cancer.
